Breaking News!!!

June 25, 2008 Special Kids Foundation is thrilled to announce:

We are partnering with the Mt. Diablo Region YMCA in Oakley to begin working toward the vision of Special Kids.

Phase One:

Special Kids, YMCA, and SMF Construction will design, and construct a Universal Abilities Playground in Oakley. This one-of-a-kind playground will incorporate play structures for children with limited physical abilities, sensory activities for children with Autism and kinesthetic needs, and a multitude of specialized interactive components to engage children of ALL abilities, in a safe, comfortable environment. There will be picnic and family gathering areas in the vicinity for networking and making connections with other families.

Phase Two:

As the YMCA builds its new facility in Oakley, they will be partnering with Special Kids Foundation as consultants to target their new buildings to align with the vision of Special Kids, for the support and use of families in Eastern Contra Costa County having children with special needs. Great care will be used to ensure that this unique population will be the focus of this new facility as we work together to build a place that will truly serve this growing population.

Phase Three:

The new facility will house services/therapies/programs to the families having special needs children of East County, side by side with the families who are not similarly challenged, in one, locally based area. We will celebrate raising healthy, strong families with the added benefit of inclusion in this thriving community.

Special Kids Foundation and Mt. Diablo Region YMCA are so excited to see their joint vision become a reality.

We will update this site as the project moves forward.

"I knew that we would find the right people, and the right place within this wonderful community to build our dream. With the YMCA as partners, we know we can finally begin to provide the support and services to the over 5,000 families here that deserve to have these supports locally. I am thrilled to have the support of SMF construction, and the YMCA as we go forward...on the fast track to reaching our goal!"

Lisa McBride - President/Founder Special Kids Foundation

"This partnership is one of the most exciting partnerships around! It is a fantastic feeling to be a part of the development and beginning of this new relationship that truly helps the community and serves not only our mission but allows us to truly Build Strong Kids, Strong Families and Strong Communities."

Tracy Walker - Executive Director Delta Family YMCA
